finally posting this, just in time for twitter exploding even more

hey what’s up im jay (they/them)! my twitter handle was pawtism

here’s some stuff about me, in no particular order:

-in my early 30s. if you’re a minor, plz don’t follow/interact.

-im not online as much as i used to be, but when i do post, you’ll mostly see posts that i find like, find funny, learn from, or find important to share

-to name a few interests: werewolves (and other monsters n beasts), furries, art, animals, nature, history, mythology, magic, alterhumanity, judaism, weed, and various media that i like (i try to tag for spoilers if the thing is new enough). sometimes i’ll blog random stuff about my life or post pictures of my pets, too

-gay married to @hobbinch irl !!!! 💙 we’ve been together for over a decade. we have a dachshund, two cats, and two leopard geckos! i love our little family so much

-im transmasc, genderqueer, butch lesbian, queer, and grey ace/aro. dont be weird about this please :)

-i have multiple kintypes, some of which overlap and some don’t! i call myself (were)wolfkin because my primary kintypes are werewolf and wolf therian. depending on what’s going on with me/my brain on any given day, im also a black cat, a cerberus, a dragon, and/or a combination of any/all of the above. you know how it is sometimes lol

-im ashkenazi jewish, with reform and orthodox background + family. i consider myself agnostic, and currently am not affiliated with a specific movement. i’m slowly working out what my deal is and where i fit in ✡️

-when im more functional/not bogged down by disability stuff, i make art (#my art) and write. i also enjoy proofreading!

-ive got multiple disabilities, and have very limited energy amounts as a result. this combos off horribly with my Brain Shit (such as social anxiety, autism, memory problems, and more!!). sometimes i reply to DMs slowly/inconsistently, but i always try to get back to folks eventually! thank you for your patience <3

-on a similar note to above, i often struggle with articulating myself, especially out loud (see: Brain Shit). if you ever need me to clarify something or you’re concerned about something i said/did/reblogged/etc, feel free to reach out! in general i appreciate corrections, and rebuke if i misstep

-thanks for reaching the bottom of this pinned post im sorry i come with so many disclaimers ✨

I think one of the goals of society should be that someone who requires expensive medicine and a lot of care can live an amazing life, the longest life they possibly can, with dignity, even if they have no friends or family or anyone who cares enough about them to help. the goals of a society should be to make life better than if we are alone, society should want life to be as good as possible for as many people as possible, and those goals should account for people not having social support networks.

social life aside, the most hated or ignored person in town should be able to live as good and fair and just of a life as the most loved person in town. survival needs to stop being a popularity contest.

a lot of self professed socialists and left wing people have absolutely no consciousness on imperialism and when it comes down to it could easily be convinced of being fascists

determinate-negation

seriously when the reaction to people making very realistic observations on how the structure of the global economy is unsustainable, especially for the first world, is “great way to make people support socialism by telling them their lives are gonna be worse under it”…

if you define quality of life and freedom in terms of access to cheap commodities and convenience at the cost of others, you might not be a socialist!!

i feel like it's worth remembering that the most vulnerable people aren't just being "inconvenienced" by strikes. the only reason strikes work is because they grind an industry to a halt, and that genuinely can result in very dangerous situations for some people. the bystanders probably arent a huge issue with like the writers strike, but without say, UPS, a lot of people will not get medicine, food, and other essentials in time. and of course the workers themselves are sacrificing potentially everything to hold the line.

TO BE CLEAR, this is not the fault of the striking workers. the corporations could end this at any moment by choosing to be slightly less evil, and workers should not have to choose between endangering themselves constantly or endangering random strangers sometimes. but i feel like i see a lot of very flippant posts coming from a place of privilege where they're like "lol yeah i would love to be slightly inconvenienced all the time so people can be paid more, dont be a baby" as if strikes are a simple and easy solution, and not something people very bravely do, if not as a last resort, at least after exhausting the less dangerous options. fighting for our rights is not painless.

I get missing the Honeymoon Phase of the relationship once you're out of it but like what is a relationship if not Hanging Out. There is no higher form of love, of human connection, than Hanging Out. Why would you ever give up on that. All of mankind's endeavors, the very instinct wired into us as biological creatures, all of it points towards the holiness inherent to Just Chilling With Someone

yes yes yes yes hanging with kit every day is so fun i love them so much!!!

In a statement to The Post, a spokesperson for NBCUniversal claimed the tree work is simply an annual ritual at this time of year. “We understand that the safety tree trimming of the Ficus trees we did on Barham Blvd. has created unintended challenges for demonstrators, that was not our intention. In partnership with licensed arborists, we have pruned these trees annually at this time of year to ensure that the canopies are light ahead of the high wind season,” they wrote. “We support the WGA and SAG’s right to demonstrate and are working to provide some shade coverage. We continue to openly communicate with the labor leaders on-site to work together during this time.”

Quick shoutout to the good people at @UniversalPics for trimming the trees that gave our picket line shade right before a 90+ degree week. pic.twitter.com/aZvvPYQ23i — Chris Stephens (@ChrisStephensMD) July 17, 2023ALT

Here is the weeping fig at Plummer Park that has been left alone because it is in weho. The photo embedded in the tweet is of an absolutely enormous tree with a huge lush shade canopy planted between a sidewalk and parking lot. — lauren (@aptkr_) July 17, 2023ALT

If those trees were pollarded annually, the cut areas would NOT look like that. There would be big knobs of old growth at the trimming sites. Not seeing any of that here. The way those trees were topped (not pollarded, which is a very careful process that has to begin when the tree is immature) is excellent way to kill them due to loss of hydration, open sites to infection and parasitism during the best time of year for both, lack of nutrition due to so little greenery and new budding growth being left, sunburn and other exposure damage, and a myriad of other possibilities. Plus, if they were topped annually, they would not have the lovely drooping branches seen in the other picture but would have tons of vertical suckers instead.

This is what an annually pollarded mature tree should look like:

If this was done by the city, the public works arborists should be protesting in front of city hall and screaming their heads off right now. I'm not hearing about that, so... Tree law!

Update and confirmation of Imminent Tree Law:

Our Office is investigating the tree trimming that occurred outside Universal Studios where workers, writers, and actors are exercising their right to picket. The trimmed trees are LA City managed street trees. (Before and after photos below) pic.twitter.com/xczw0bTdh9 — LA City Controller Kenneth Mejia (@lacontroller) July 19, 2023ALT

He mentions later in the thread that not only do they not trim the trees annually, they’re trimmed at best once every 18 years. Supposed to be every five, and only in dormancy, which even my layman’s ass knows about tree trimming.

And yes, Universal can probably eat the fine. But it’s gonna be a whopper even if the trees survive (which is as mentioned kinda unlikely), California is a triple damage state for tree law, and it may increase dramatically if there were nesting birds in the trees.

All this to be a Captain Planet filler villain to some writers. And yes, it’s currently just the writers officially picketing there; SAG-AFTRA recommended against it for petty bullshit like this and the suddenly necessary sidewalk construction.

I asked my dad— a retired arborist—about TREE LAW and he just kinda blinked and said (i paraphrase because Dad Tangents, amirite?):

"Worst and best case I ever saw was a guy who was caught in the act of cutting down a C&C tree by two Department of Urban Forestry supervisors while they were randomly driving around on a Saturday. Not only did he have to deal with the cops showing up and months of paperwork and bureaucracy, but he also had to pay the fines AND cover the cost of the tree removal + stumping + buying a new tree + planting the new tree + wages for the regular crew plus the extra workers they needed to get the jobs done. That tree ended up costing him upwards of $35K, and that was over 20 years ago."

So yeah, respect Tree Law or pay out the bootyhole.
